14 August – 24 August 2026
Tanzania is a country in East Africa with an area of 945,087 sq km (including the islands of Mafia, Pemba, and Zanzibar). Tanzania shares with its neighboring countries two of Africa’s largest lakes, Lake Victoria to the north and Lake Tanganyika to the west.
1/3 of the country is national parks and game sanctuaries. On its territory lies the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is located in Northwest Tanzania and very close to the Equator. It is a single volcanic massif with two peaks, of which the peak Kimbo (5895 m) is the highest in Africa, connected by a neck to the second Mavensi (5,149 m).
Kibo is a volcanic crater that is becoming permanently extinct, while Mawenzi is also a crater of an extinct volcano, once taller but lost part of its height due to erosion. Both these peaks are covered by glaciers, which are the only ones around the Equator. The glacier on Kibo Peak descends to 4,900 meters.
The lower zones of the mountain from 3000 to 2000 meters are covered by virgin forests, while the even lower areas form excellent cultivation lands.
