Mountain Atlas Toubkal Peak 4167m / Surfing / Attractions
October 28 – November 4, 2025
Morocco is a colorful country, with modern yet medieval cities, high mountains, vast deserts and beaches, labyrinthine souks, and tranquil corners. Whatever you’re looking for, it will enchant you.
Striking colors, fragrant spice markets, and an orchestra of urban sounds: Morocco might seem a bit overwhelming at first.
But it is utterly captivating and uniquely exotic.
Morocco, like the city of Marrakech, takes its name from the Berber phrase “mur (n) akuch,” meaning “Land of God.” Morocco’s history spans millennia, with fossils and signs of habitation dating back 315,000 years.
The Atlas mountain range, like the Atlantic Ocean, takes its name from the mythical Atlas, the Titan of Greek mythology who, after the Titanomachy, was punished to hold the earth on his shoulders at its western edge. The mountain’s highest peak, Toubkal, means “High Mountain” and reaches 4,167 meters.
With this trip, we will explore the Atlas mountain range, take a full desert road trip, and visit Morocco’s most important cities and monuments.
During the trip, we will experience significant temperature fluctuations. From temperatures near or below zero at the mountain peak, to over 30°C in the Sahara Desert.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Departure from Athens to Marrakech, meeting with our partner and now very good friend, Hassan. Transfer to the hotel and a brief presentation of the upcoming program.
Day 2: We wake up to the sounds of the Imam and begin our journey to the village of Armund at 1780 meters at the foot of the mountain. From here, we will load our luggage onto mules and start our trek to the Toubkal refuge (3208m altitude). Trekking hours: 6.
Day 2 (Group B): Visit to Marrakech
After breakfast, we will explore this amazing city. With our guide, we will tour Marrakech: Marrakech hosts an endless array of souks. Each is dedicated to a distinct trade: ceramics, carpentry, copper, leather, carpets, and spices. Marrakech’s monuments are numerous and range from the famous Koutoubia Mosque and its magnificent minaret, to the Bahia Palace and the ruins of the Badi Palace. The Saadian Tombs are a recently discovered gem of the Medina. All of these can be challenging to locate, but that’s part of the experience of exploring Morocco’s phenomenal medinas. Overnight stay at a hotel in Marrakech.
Day 3: The summit day on this trip arrived quickly, and the ascent to Toubkal Jebel peak at 4167 meters altitude is underway. After 5 hours of effort, we are at the highest peak of the Atlas mountain range, with the hot Sahara stretching out at our feet. Return to the refuge enjoying the sunset. Trekking hours: 9.
Day 3 (Group B): Marrakech – Agafay Desert – Imlil – Aremd
This is the most popular day trip in the region. We leave the city in the morning and return in the evening, having experienced a day of beautiful natural and cultural exchange. We will visit the most amazing and beautiful places: the Agafay Desert, the Kik Plateau, the Atlas Mountains, the Atlas waterfalls, Imlil Valley, Ansi Valley, Amizmiz Valley, walking and visiting about 8 Berber villages to learn about their lives, ascending to the waterfalls and enjoying the amazing views.
The excursion includes ATV and camel rides. We will enjoy our lunch at a Berber house in the village, with a view of Mount Toubkal (4167m) and the neighboring peak of Aguelzim (3750m). Dinner and overnight stay in Arend village.
Day 4: Today we will ascend the second and third highest peaks of Morocco, Ras (4083m) and Timzguida (4088m), collectively known as Jebel Ouanoukrim. The view of the Atlas is stunning. On the way back, we will descend to the refuge for lunch and then return to Aroumd village via Sidi Chamharouch village. Trekking hours: 9. Dinner and overnight stay at a Riad Hotel.
Day 4 (Group B): Easy Hike
Today, we will take an easy hike and visit a Berber village. We will drink mint tea at a Berber house before returning to our hotel for lunch. We will have the opportunity to visit a Berber hammam before waiting for the rest of the group to return from the mountains to have dinner together.
Day 5: After breakfast, we will head towards the city of Essaouira. We will have the opportunity to explore the city, visit the Fortress, admire the wood carvings made from Thaya wood, walk through the medina’s alleys, and see hundreds of handicrafts.
Today we will enjoy our lunch the Moroccan way, with fresh fish cooked to order. In the afternoon, we will have free time to wander around and go to the beach with its big waves.
Essaouira is also referred to as the “Wind City” and attracts surfers from all over the world.
Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 6: After breakfast at the hotel, we will go surfing. In the afternoon, we will depart for Marrakech. Along the way, we will visit a women’s cooperative that produces argan oil. After several photo stops, we will continue our journey to Marrakech.
In the evening, we can enjoy a stroll in the famous Jemaa El Fna square, entertained by magicians, storytellers, musicians, and snake charmers.
