Pelion: 4-Day Private Sea Kayak Volos & Mt. Pelion Tour

Welcome to Pelion Mountain, which overlooks the Pagasetic Gulf and the city of Volos. The legend that Pelion is the home of Centaurs, half man – half horse mythical creatures, seems to become reality when wandering around the wild nature. When you visit it, even for the first time, you will understand the reason that made Olympian gods move to Pelion Mountain from Olympus in summer. The great position of Pelion Mountain offers wide vistas of both mountain and sea.

Enjoy full four days of kayaking in the tranquil waters of Pagasetic Gulf and discover hidden gems along the coast of beautiful Mount Pelion, Greece. Paddle along the coast and discover the mythical Centaurs. Listen to your instructor and learn about Cheron Centaur, the teacher of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Marvel at astonishing views, visit secluded beaches, try delicious meals, and discover hidden coves on this amazing Greece kayaking tour.

Day 1: Volos – Gatzea (about 3-4 hours kayaking)

We meet our guide and after a briefing and loading all of our equipment on our kayaks, we leave the city of Volos behind us. Enjoy a beautiful day in the water with easy paddling and stunning views of Mount Pelion. Gatzea is a small fishing village, surrounded by immense large olive groves and by the foothills of the Pelion Mountains. Enjoy a typical Greek atmosphere, the quietness, and the beautiful surroundings. Gatzea is a beautiful small village by the sea with several nice taverns to try delicious local food. You will be staying in a tent provided by the host.

Day 2: Gatzea – Milina (about 3-4 hours easy kayaking)

Start your day with a strong breakfast and off we go paddling, exploring several beaches and hidden coves along the way. We will make swim stops for you to enjoy the clear water, snorkel, and relax under the Mediterranean sun. You will spend the night at a camping site in Milina. Today, it is considered one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in Pelion along the Pagasitic Gulf and offers its visitors all the modern comforts. You will find picturesque bays and beautiful sandy beaches with exceptionally clean waters on the village’s coastline. The village is beautiful with many taverns and coffee shops to choose from and have a relaxing night.

Day 3: Milina – Island of Trikeri (about 4-5 hours of kayaking)

This is the most challenging day of your tour. You will paddle your kayak to the island of Paleo Trikeri after about 4-5 hours in the water. Trikeri is a small islet at the entrance of Pagasitikos gulf, beautiful and serene. Paleo Trikeri is a small car-free island with lots of olive trees and citrus trees. The largest building on the island is the monastery with its church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. There is a harbor town, Agios Yiannis, which was formerly a fishing port. Today, both the fish and the population of the main village have become lesser (only 20 people live steadily on Trikeri Island during the winters). There is little touristic activity on the island and it is therefore ideal for those seeking a quiet and relaxing time with the authentic pace of the Greek Islands, as well as for individual travelers in the Pelion region. Good food, including fresh fish, is available in a seaside tavern! You will spend the night in rooms provided by a monastery.

Day 4: Island of Trikeri – Ag. Kiriaki

On the last day of your Greece kayaking tour, you will be paddling a final stretch until you reach the small seaside village of Agia Kyriaki, at the far end of the Pelion peninsular. The village has an Aegean Sea atmosphere similar to an island. The pearly white houses of the village, stretch amphitheatrically along the beach, while at its picturesque port are a colorful collection of fishing boats, yachts, and caiques. On your arrival, you can you will have the chance to taste fresh fish and seafood at the traditional fish taverns, which are situated around the port. After lunch, you will be picked up for your return journey to Volos (about 2 hours very scenic drive).
