Meteora, Thessaly—literally meaning “suspended in the air”—is a unique landscape of massive rock pillars and rounded formations that dominate the area. It is also home to one of the most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece.
Just a short distance from Meteora, in the village of Gavros, we experience this impressive terrain in a different way—through a Via Ferrata route, combining hiking and protected climbing on the rock.
We meet our guide and transfer to Gavros village, located close to Meteora. After a short briefing and preparation, we approach the route with a short and easy hike.
At the starting point, we take some time to get familiar with the equipment and safety procedures. Our certified guide will explain how to move on the route using the via ferrata system.
Following a fully equipped path with cables and metal steps, we begin our ascent on the rock. The route includes fun vertical sections and easy technical passages, always secured to the safety line.
Reaching higher points, we enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and the wider Meteora area. After completing the route, we descend safely back to the base and return with a full sense of accomplishment.
