Meteora, Thessaly literally meaning “suspended in the air”, is a formation of immense monolithic pillars and hills-like huge rounded boulders, which dominate the local area. It is also associated with one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece.

The six monasteries are built on natural conglomerate pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly, near the Pineios river and the famous Pindus Mountain range. Hiking Meteora and walking the same old paths the ascetic monks used to follow, will be a breathtaking experience. Don’t forget to pay a visit to two of the most important monasteries of Meteora: Megalo Meteoro and Varlaam.

We meet our guide in the parking of your hotel and with our mini bus we arrive to Kastraki. (2 hours driving) We start our walk from the square of the village to the amazing area of Meteora, visit the best monasteries and experience the most attractive view on this route. This trail is one of the best ways to enjoy this unique geological phenomenon and learn the history of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We follow the footsteps of the first monks who arrived here more than 15 centuries ago and we end back to Kastraki village to enjoy a traditional meal in a local taverna.
